It’s nearly that time of year again folks, that special time of year when we can really express how we feel for that special someone in our lives.

For those of you who have been in long term relationships it must feel like an uphill battle to find something original and special, but fear not folks, I’m here to give you some essential tips that will keep you in your other half’s good books for a long time.  Make someone’s day special with some exciting Valentine Day presents.

The thoughtful present is the one that always wins the day. It shows that you are an attentive partner. Take your time and listen to the clues he/she is giving. Women are great at dropping hints even when it’s unintentional.

Listen in on a girlie conversations and you’re bound to get at least 5 ideas for what to get her for Valentine’s Day. The same for ladies, men drop hints all the time. It may be a special golfing collectable item to add to his collection or a book that has been recommended on Oprah – whatever it is, make sure it’s thoughtful, make sure it’s interesting and most of all make sure it impresses.

There is a huge choice of fun, classic, unusual, personalised and gifts out there for you to choose from just make sure you plan ahead so you get what you want and not what’s left!

One of the things you do need to do is decide on which stage your relationship is in. For the smug married of the world this is obviously no issue at all you’re only problem will be originality with the element of surprise, but for new relationships this is crucial as it can dictate what kind of gift to give to your lover without giving the wrong message.

Roses are the quintessential valentine’s gift.  A dozen red roses is a widely accepted romantic gesture as it’s generally associated with the occasion and make great Valentine’s Day presents. There are many interesting alternatives to roses if flowers are on the agenda.

Tulips and Lilies are beautiful flowers and in fact show a bit more imagination. However, flowers have a language of their own so while some flowers covey thoughtfulness and love, others for example; a gift of yellow roses is usually a gesture of friendship.

So speak to the florist before purchasing.  If your relationship is middle of the road, a nice box of Godiva chocolates and a card should always do the trick.

If you’re in a couple who have busy lifestyles and never have that much time to spend together, this is your opportunity to indulge in some  couple activities like spa weekends. These are great as they are not too restrictive.

You can either just use the spa facilities such as the sauna, swimming pool and steam or really spoil yourself with some treatments.  A city break is great for a change of scenery and more importantly – some fresh air! So whatever you decide to give to your loved one this Valentine’s Day make it special and make it count whichever stage your relationship is in.
